Last-Minute Lighting Decision

So we're only DAYS away from the Parade of Homes, and we have run into a problem with the kitchen lighting. The original pendant lights that we selected for above the island will not be here in time. This leaves us to find a new set somewhere local. We are down to 2 options, but we need your help deciding- and fast!

Option 1:  This is a wider, dome-shape.

Option 2: More narrow and tall.

One Week Away!

We are a week away from the Parade of Homes' completion deadline. It is amazing to see things come together so quickly! The house has really come to life. We now only have a bit more finish-work, touch-ups, and landscaping to be done. Then it will be time to furnish the home for our guests at the Parade of Homes.

Here is a look at some of the design details that you helped us choose.

Transom Windows  These beautiful accent windows feature a textured glass that lets the light shine throughout the house. It makes the hallways feel open and fresh. Great choice!

Staircase  With your help, we decided to do the white posts with a dark stained hand rail and newel posts. We also decided to do the dark wood end caps with carpeted stairs. See how beautiful it turned out!

Kitchen   The kitchen is a masterpiece! We can't wait to see it with the final touches. We ended up with white cabinets and a dark island. You also helped us select the white marble for the island, and it is gorgeous! Definitely a must-see.

Corbels   Your votes told us to go for the corbels with arches and we couldn't be happier with them! Take a look for yourself.

Thanks for following us and for helping us decide so many options. We love the way things are looking. It's not over yet, so be sure to check back! You will definitely want to see the final product. The Parade of Homes starts on July 29th and runs through August 14th. Please come in person to see our amazing home and the beautiful details you helped select!

We will be giving away Parade of Homes tickets to winners on our Facebook page, so if you're not already a fan on Facebook, you can add us here and be entered for a chance to win tickets!

18. Corbels, Corbels, Corbels

A corbel is a wood, metal or stone bracket that juts out of a wall to support the structure above it. Corbels can be structural or purely decorative. For our home, we would like to install decorative corbels to go along with our Craftsman Style.

Now we need to decide what kind of corbels to install on our new, beautiful home! There are two styles we are trying to decide between.

OPTION #1
The first is a beam-like corbel. This style looks like the main beams of the house extend out to the roof line. They would then be painted white to match the exterior. This style of corbel can be seen in the photo below at the center of the gable.

OPTION #2
The other style of Corbel we love has a bit more detail. It features a decorative arch that makes it more prominent.

17. Coming Together!

We're only a few weeks away from the Parade and things are coming together nicely! Here is an update on the exterior. The Hardie Board installation is now complete.

We installed the cabinets today. Thanks to your participation and votes, we went with a dark island against the white cabinets.

Can't wait to get the countertops and hardware installed. Make sure you check back to see the completed look!
